Day Two of NaPiBoWriWee

Yesterday was day two and I wrote another picture book first draft. The story idea for this came from the hubby on Sunday. He knew I was brainstorming and gave a really cute story idea. So when it is published, I will have to dedicate it to him. *wink*

It isn't easy writing a picture book. Young kids are a tough audience and a writer must write tight (showing) and choose strong, powerful verbs that holds their interest. Adjectives are great. But they have to be chosen carefully.

I love writing picture books. And I love writing funny picture books.  All children love funny, they love to giggle.

So far I'm doing great. But tomorrow is another day. ;-)

Wish me luck. Anyone have chocolate?

  1. Good luck! I just had a long talk with a very successful picture book author, and she was taking me through all the various challenges that present themselves. The best ones sound simple, but to get an adult to sound simple take a lot of work. Keep at it!

  2. Sorry, I already ate all my chocolate. Hehe. I don't know if I could write a picture book. Then again, I guess I already did, when I was a kid :) One was called "Selly the Pain". lol as in, Selly was the character, and was a pain in the butt!

  6. Two weeks ago I went into my daughter's grade 3 class and helped a bunch of kids write picture book stories.

It's a lot harder than people think. Good luck.

  8. Husbands are great for ideas, aren't they? My husband gave me the idea for my current WIP. I told him something my agent said was selling now and he gave me an angle for it. Although he's given me plenty of ideas I didn't use!

  10. Wow, that's quite a challenge! I thought the A to Z was tough. Good luck with this new challenge. Sounds fun, in addition to hard, though.

Found you through the A to Z. It may be done, but I figured there were still blogs I wanted to see that I'd missed.

  11. Well now dearie, I have no doubt, this picture book will be a good read. I'm interested already~

Kids love to laugh, and look at pictures, and understand...it makes them feel "big".

    Good job to the hubs!

  12. Luck! And, a whole bag of Dove chocolate just for you. You know, the ones with the inspirational messages. My son calls them fortune chocolates. Let's see, this one says, "Your words will flow smooth and sweet like honey."

  14. I have an orange flavored Godiva chocolate bar my fiance got as schwag at a conference for work. I hate to say this, but I'm angry at Godiva. Ruining chocolate with orange. It tastes funky. But I'll give it to you. :-P
