Would YOU vote for these two for President and Vice President? Read on to find out just what I'm talking about. Wanna buy these books? Go here, or here, or here.
Angela and Becca have REALLY made YOUR writing easier. Mine too. As if their excellent blog Writers Helping Writers (formally The Bookshelf Muse) wasn't enough. They have brought emotions to life with the Emotion Thesaurus.
AND LOOK. THEY'RE COLOR CODED. They look like yummy jelly beans. Except they're not.
When I sit down to write, I make sure I have notebook, pen and pencil, computer, and my copy of Emotion Thesaurus. It's easy to follow and everything is broken down into an easy to understand thesaurus. From adoration to worry and all emotions in between, they have you covered. I love how they add interesting stuff on each page about internal sensations, mental responses, and much, much more. This will bring your characters to life. And this will be your GO TO writing book. On top of this, they recently came out with the The Positive Trait Thesaurus and the Negative Trait Thesaurus.
Okay! They have my vote for President and Vice President with these two new additions. (Although, Ange will have to move to the states to take on this new job.) :-) You guys in??? Wait a sec. You guys are just too danged honest. :-)
The Positive Traits Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Attributes just adds to the Emotion Thesaurus in a big way. I could not believe my eyes when I opened my copy. It is way more than an itemized list, it's a GOLDMINE for writers. Are you struggling with trying to create very real characters in your writing? Need personality help for your characters? You've come to the right place. It's sister, The Negative Traits Thesaurus: A Writers Guide to Character Flaws screams YOU NEED ME! on your writing bookshelf. Want well-rounded, whole characters who jump off the page? Want to understand how to melt those character flaws into your characters making them seem as real as real can be? Want to make your antag a nasty sort with believable good qualities too? Then you MUST. I repeat. You MUST buy these books. They are companions to each other. You must have them all. They are really the only writing books you need from now on. TRUST ME. Angela and Becca! Do you accept my nomination? *wink* *wink* I guess they're doing what they were meant to do. Helping writers write interesting stories that are unputdownable! Yeah!
I'm giving away a Kindle edition of your pick of any one of these three books. Already have them all? I'll buy your crit partner one then. Just leave a comment telling which one you'd like and on Friday, March 7th, I'll use Random.org to pick a winner. Good luck y'all! Thanks for reading!
Ooooo, how exciting. Thanks for the contest Robyn. I would looooove to get my hands on The Positive Trait Thesaurus =)
ReplyDeleteLove The Emotion Thesaurus. Need to get the other two. Don't enter me in the contest. I don't have a Kindle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic start to this post! #raiseshand Both are remarkable women. What makes them even better than your average is their kindness to the writing community. Hearts!
ReplyDeleteI Have all of those books and they are very helpful!
ReplyDeleteAngela and Becca are two of my favourite blogging peeps. These books are great resources for writers.
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn .. I'm sure I've got the Emotional Thesaurus .. but to have access to the two new ones is amazing .. I must check my shelf - I don't do novels at the moment - but who knows ...
ReplyDeletePositive Traits - can totally relate too .... Negative - I don't do .. but always good to have as a reference!
Cheers to you and congratulations to Angela and Becca ... and jelly beans: perhaps I need a cup of tea .. don't have jelly beans on tap!
Happy week - Hilary
You would be a great campaign manager! I have the e-version of their first book and I love it. Someday I am going to break down and get the hard copy of it. Would like to win an e-version of one of the other two, tho. Either one will do.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robyn.
I absolutely love my emotion thesaurus. It's the best writing book I have.
ReplyDeleteI have the first one and refer to it often.
ReplyDeleteRobyn, WOW!! You are too awesome for words. I am thrilled, let me repeat THRILLED that you are getting such good use from these books. What a shocker and joy to read this post--you are just too good to Becca and I!
ReplyDeleteRun for president/vice present? Oh I fear for the world, haha. I better leave that up to the professionals. However, in my USA, every child would have a kindle loaded with books! :)
Thanks everyone for the kind word--you guys make this job of ours so much fun!
I have been using the Emotion Thesaurus. I simply love it! I still have to get my hands on the NEgative Thesaurus trait though.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I nominated you for an award on my blog. :D hugs!

These sound great! Thanks for sharing, Robyn. I'd probably choose The Positive Trait Thesaurus.
ReplyDeleteHow very cool of you! I'd love the Negative Traits.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I never win and since I'm being negative, I'll ask for the positive one .... just in case I'm wrong. I've heard so many great things about these books.
ReplyDeleteI already have The Emotion Thesaurus and I need to buy the other two! :) I don't yet know Becca but Angela is a sweetheart (just like you, Robyn!!).
ReplyDeleteI read the first one and I'd like to read the last two, especially the negative traits one.
ReplyDeleteI have the Emotion Thesaurus, but not the others. I think I would need the Negative Trait next, because I think I need help with that. :)
ReplyDeleteDude, Angela and I are SOOO hitting the campaign trail! Robyn, thank you for spreading the word about our books. I'm so glad you're finding them worth the time to not only use yourself but to share with others. What a great endorsement! Good luck, everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing these wonderful resources with us! They all sound so helpful. I have heard of the Emotion Thesaurus, but the rest are new to me. Thanks for the giveaway. I would love any of them- but maybe I should start with The Emotion Thesaurus. :)
ReplyDeleteThese books are indispensable. I already own all three, so please don't enter me into the contest. What I'd like to see is a copy in every public library, school and university writer's help center and first year required text. They are just that good. A writer can dream…:)
ReplyDeleteThese books are the best! Since adopting Angela and Becca so they can live with me and help me with my writing is out of the question, these books are the next best thing. :) The only one I don't have is the Negative Trait Thesaurus and I hope to get (or win, lol) that one soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks amigo, for sharing this great post. Every writer needs these books!
I already have and love The Emotional Thesaurus, most definitely need to get the other two!
ReplyDeleteOoo these thesauruses are great. I have the emotion one (such a huge best seller). It's a great idea for writers to launch books like this. Probably money in the bank.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, BBF! I have the Emotion thesaurus- such a great resource. I don't have Kindle either, so no need to enter me. Mwah!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best book reviews evuh! Yes, I vote for them for President and VP, fed sure! I'd like to try to win The Positive Trait Thesaurus. I have The Emotion Thesaurus and I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteBoth books look like compulsively interesting reading material... Give me the negative baby--everyone says I'm too nice...little do they know...mwaaaah! :)
ReplyDeleteRobyn, so cool that you did this.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be clairvoyant here. I think Cheryl's going to win. ; )
