BJ asked, "Why Do You Write?"

Why do I write?
I write because through my writing, I can become anyone or anything. I can go anywhere I wish to go. Writing sends me to worlds unknown. If I write about space, I’m there. If I should write about a castle in Ireland, I’m there. I can time travel too. I can meet Shakespeare. Shake hands with my favorite writer, Edgar Allen Poe. I can even be at the cross watching Jesus die for my sins. And you say that anyone who reads can do all of this. Ah, but when I write the story, I can choose where, when, how, who, and what. The story is mine to tell. I don’t have to dream about unknown places and planets, I can live them. So that is why I write. There are so many places to visit in my worlds. I can’t wait to reach them all. And I’d love to take some Twinkies along with me. A girl gets hungry, you know. (^_^)

  2. Love the twinkies! No one should leave home without them!!!!

I am agree with you though. I love to write because I be anything, I can do anything, and I can fly anywhere I want too! Stay there for as long as I like, eat things I normally would be to afraid to try! The worlds are amazing when you get to choose where to go!

  3. I write so I can fly on the back of dragons, or swim the depths of the seas with the dolphins (not the football team, Ms. Robyn!!!). I think writing gives us the freedom to be and do anything we darn well want to be/do!!

  6. Nisa, all is well. I have not gotten the dreaded stomach flu yet. Here's hoping I won't. And I have been all over the world. (With my writing.) =)

  10. Linda, YOU said it perfectly, "Why not?" The perfect answer actually. Sounds like something Hemingway might have said. =)Only he would have put the d_ _ _ before it. =)

  11. I write because it feels good, because the English teacher inside of me screams to get out, because I want to crawl inside of Cornelia Funke's INKHEART and never come out again. :-)

  13. Imagination is a wonderful place, and that is a great reason to write--to let yourself explore it, to live it. Super answer.

  14. Shannon, Doesn't it feel good? They say, "if it feels good, do it." We are living our dream girly! =0)

  15. Tamika, I know. And to write like we are there, feeling everything, seeing everything. It just is extraordinary. =)

  16. Pat, thanks my friend. Imagination is everything. And to actually live through my characters, well, there is no better life. =)

  17. I write because of my constant need to create things that only words can. Writing makes me come alive. Writing helps me know myself better. And when my writing is pleasing others, the satisfaction is complete.

Then it's everything you said, Robyn. Those are fantastic opportunities for a writer.: )

  19. Oh Robyn, Well put! I think you've summed up exactly why we all write! Ultimately, we love the creative process! When I can't find a book that satisfies me, I know that I'll be able to escape into a new place through my writing!

  23. And don't forget the Dr. Pepper. I have to have Dr. Pepper when I'm traveling through pages.

  24. Robyn, dear friend, don't make me write about the disolution of the Dolphins! It can happen, because, you know, I'm a writer, and I have total control of what happens in my writing Universe. As a matter of fact . . . in a not so big surprise to the sports world, the Dolphins were voted out of the NFL due to their pitiful, year after year, performance. Ha!

  25. That is really a terrific answer, so honest and real. I love the idea of immersion through writing. I love that vicarious thrill of creating my own world and going for that ride.

  26. I write for all of the reasons already mentioned. I fill up with thoughts, ideas, stories, and opinions so I write to release all of this stored data. If I didn't write then my head might explode..

  27. Robyn, I love the way you say things. A wire goes from your heart and shoots sparks into the air!!

Hope you and your little guy are having a good week.
    God bless,
    Patti

  30. Your blog sure has a lot of contest announcements this week.

I like to write also so I can live vicariously on other planets, be other people, try new things. I also write because I'm an obsessed writer. I'd rather write than breathe - well, almost. I love to write because I love to read. I write because I have to. I can't imagine not writing.
