Contest for MG YA writers, Read up!!

I have blogged up this AGENT before. Mary Kole is hosting a contest on her kidlit blog, inviting writers to submit the first 500 words of their finished young adult or middle grade novel. Deadline: Jan. 31, 2010. The prizes are as follows:

Grand Prize Winner: A 15 page critique
First Place: A 10 page critique
Second Place: A 5 page critique
Third Place: A 2 page critique
Honorable Mention(s): A critique of the first page of your novel

So let's get our entries in to her people. You know how Jody has blogged about contests and how important they can be. This one is a great chance for all of us to connect with an agent and get a critique on the important first pages of our novel. Good luck to all of us. :0)

Thanks to all of you that commented on the death of my Scooby. I know it will take time to heal. I'm still not over Blue's death. I really appreciate your stories of your own experiences on this life event. Thank you, thank you so much. You helped me more than you will ever know. And Ivy (who was very close to Scooby) read the comments and they comforted her too.

  1. Check out Scott's blog today. It's insightful, amazing, awe-inspiring . . . and obviously a place for some bloggers to freely (free-ly) advertise their blog. That blogger is just lucky that this blogger likes her just a tiny bit . . . otherwise she'd be finding an awful big invoice in her mailbox!

Hey, how about some contests for the few, the proud, the ones who don't write MG or YA?? Huh?

  2. Scott, I'm glad you admit that I can FREE-LY advertise on your blog. I knew you'd come around. Ahhh Peace and quiet now. :-)

Don't write MG or YA? Is there anything else?

    I'll check, I'll check. : )

  7. Oh Robyn,
I'm so sorry to hear about the death of Scooby. Boy, you've had a hard few months! It's amazing how much we grow to love our littlest babies, isn't it.

Thanks for the shout out today! And blessings to you as you enter contests and query!

  8. Jody, It IS amazing how much we grow to love them, and now that they are gone I miss their little faces looking up at me. And I worry about their mama. She looks so sad.

I am excited about being at the point where I can start to query. YAY Excited and nervous. And the shout out is the least I can do for someone who has taught me all that you have. Thanks Jody. :-)

  11. Hey, Robyn. I didn't get a chance to comment on your post about Scooby so I just wanted to mention here that I'm sorry for the loss. Your outlook on it is encouraging, though. I admire how you remain such a positive person even with these setbacks.

It's crazy all these contests. I want to enter but it's been so busy. I'm keeping a lookout, though, and if there's one that fits my genre, I'm going to go for it!

  12. Hey Cindy! I can't believe he left me too. And so soon after Blue boy. He just missed his big brother so much. And I try to remain positive, but it's challenging right now to say the least. :-)

I know the contests are all over the place. They're everywhere. 2010-year of the contest.: )

  13. Robyn, as an animal lover, I pine with you over a double grieving period.

Now...about that contest...you go, girl! And if you would like me to add a one cent to your entry, the "door" is always open!!!

    Blessings,
    Patti

  14. Patti, It is awful. I knew Scooby wasn't getting over his grieving. We tried to make him purr again. But nothing would. But to find him dead was such a shock. UGH

Hey, I would love to get your opinion on my entry. For real? :-)

  16. Yes, Robyn, isn't this an awesome contest she's holding? I heard about it a few days ago, too, & will be posting about it soon as well as about a few other contests I know going on around the blogosphere & elsewhere! There are at least two other contests I know of going on in February & March, I believe, accepting MG novels. You win money as well as receive critiques (and the fees to enter are pretty reasonable). I'm posting about them on Monday as there's a lot of detailed information to give & the deadlines are SOON.

And THANKS SO MUCH for stopping by yesterday & reading my teaser from last month. Your comments were humbling and so encouraging! Sometimes I just look at all the fabulous MG works published and just wonder if my work will measure up, you know? I guess this is where FAITH takes over . . . :)

Best of luck on your queries, Robyn (can't wait to see YOUR book on the shelves!), and so sorry to hear about Scooby.

Here's to a hopeful New Year of writerly accomplishments, my friend! :)

  17. It amazes me too Tess. How are ya? WIP coming along? I'll stop by later. :-)

  18. Hey Crystal, thanks for your thoughts about Scooby. He was my sweet guy. He just couldn't stay here without his brother and best friend. Now they are together waiting on their mama and all of us. And they're safe now.

I'll be by to read your Monday posts. Sounds interesting. Though I am ready to query and will probably start next week. Not sure what day. I'm compiling my agent list and working on my synopsis. UGH-synopsis

I really enjoyed reading your piece. It is really very good. I know you are getting close to being ready to query too. Let's do this. *high five* I look at the books out there and wonder if mine can measure up too Crystal. Then I think, "Yup! It can measure up." And that is where the FAITH does take over. I believe I will buy your book one day soon. And then I can tell people, "Hey I know her." Bragging rights! : )

I can't wait to see my book on the shelves either. Crystal, won't that just be the greatest feeling? Oh man! It gives me butterflies just thinking about it.

    Writerly accomplishments! To us! Cheers

  20. I love all these contests going on. By the way, during December until after Christmas, I only posted M-W-F. I'm back to posting every weekday now. You are not crazy. I guess I missed something about Scooby. I'm sorry for your loss.

  22. Susan, Oh that's right. So I'm not in another dimension. WHEW! You had me worried.

Thanks about Scooby. I am missing him so much.

All these contests are so cool aren't they? WOOT! Have a great weekend. :-)

  23. How did I miss the post of your trailer? I follow so faithfully -- so I'm super glad you told me about it.

I love it. It reminds me of Hatchet (one of my favorites) or even My Side of the Mountain (sort of) only add girls and horses ... even better!!! I don't know a MG kid alive who doesn't love a good survival story. Great go, girl!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tess, thanks for looking at it. Almost ready to query agents. I'm trying to at least have a rough draft of a synopsis before I start.

And Hatchet is a great read. I actually read it in preparation for writing SEVENTY TWO HOURS. And My Side of the Mountain is really good too.

Thanks for checking out the trailer. I appreciate it. :-)
