U Stands For...

umbrella! What does this have to do with writing, you ask?? (You're thinkin' I'm so pooped that I've gone off the deep side of things, aren't ya??) Do you see where I'm going here??
In the past I have used my made in, pop up covering/umbrella/blanket/parasol to hide from my characters. If I hid, I'm was off the hook. I didn't have to write them into the story. I didn't even havta write the story. Seriously folks. I used to be this way. Uh-huh. *dingy* Until I realized that my characters were my friends and that spending time with them was one of my favorite things to do. I think I was petrified of failure. Question?????? Ever been this way? Or should I go away now? *hides face* *crawls under bed*

Check out more A to Z posts by clicking on my flashy alphabet box. And NO! It's mine and you can't have it! xo Will this save as a published post and then when I turn my head, will blogger save it as a draft? That is the question. Blogger, why dost thou hateth me?? *sob* Yeah, I'm in

Shakespeare or somethin' mode.

  1. I too have used the umbrella to hide when the going gets tough. But, nowadays I have thrown the umbrella away.

  2. I found my umbrella while cleaning out my car recently. I used to hide behind a red raincoat a little bit, until it died and I had to let it go. Beds are a good place to hide too, but I can't squeeze under them most of the time.

  3. I just read a guest blog about writing characters. The Masquerade Crew, just down from yours. If you can't find ways to motivate your characters, this will help. Blog on!

  4. I hide under blankets, where neither my characters nor evil monsters can see me.

  5. I don't know if I had an umbrella, but I very definitely have a fear of failure, so you're not alone there.

  6. Fear of failure can rain down so heavy at times that you need that umbrella. I think it's the fear of not doing justice to your story. It's all in my head, but it's my execution that always has me worried.

  7. I'm a total hider! I love having bright partly shiny ideas, but I'm afraid to try to write them in case I ruin them! As long as they're still ideas, they're still full of potential!

  8. An umbrella is a necessity where I live, in the rainy North West of England.
Luckily I don't have to use it to hide from characters like you do.

  9. Interesting. Another way to hide from your characters is to not write out in-scene their, deepest emotional tasks-like skipping a birth scene when the story is about a teen who gives up her baby.

  10. Stopping by to say hello! I don't have an umbrella to hide under. I do have a warm comforter I can hide under, but if I do that I'm no longer hiding because I'll fall asleep. : )

  11. Blogger is befuddling me right now too. Oh man, change is hard! I'm not sure I've hidden from my characters but for a lot of years, I umbrella-ed my desire to write. Sure glad that old thing blew away in the wind!

  12. You? *dingy*? That's too funny!

I have grown *dingy* in my golden years...thanks to two hillarrriously crazy (now grown)kids, one goof-ball husband, and a crazy crazy life.

I used to be queen of the head-in-the-sand tribe, had to change that and learn to deal with situations head-on.

Great post, it's right on time.

  13. I think you're getting just a little A to Z stir crazy!
I'm used to the new interface, but my scheduled posts won't post. They don't go into draft - the time just comes and goes and nothing happens.

  14. Where I live an umbrella is an absolute must! And I've already broken three since the start of this year! So I can't hide anymore!

  15. I've hidden under a blanket, literally. There are times when I don't feel like writing and I take a nap instead.

  17. I think I was scared to write the hf mg novel I'm working on. I did research for three years...I wrote six chapters and stopped, but I started writing it seriously about two months ago and now I see a series in it's future.

  18. Umbrellas, blankets, duvets, comforters... quite an assortment of items to hide behind...

Makes me think of the '70's song - Sunglasses, ooh ooh, to hide behind...
Coming from a hot and humid subtropical climate, sunglasses would be the perfect item to hide behind... combined with lazing on the beach... perfect excuse since the humidity "fries" the brain cells...
