Yay for awards

The Honest Scrap award was given to me by Laurel over at Laurel's leaves Laurel, thank you for this honor. I so appreciate it and greatly treasure our friendship. :-) Y'all visit her blog if you don't already. It's wonderful.

I think I'm supposed to share ten things about myself. And they are:

1. I home-school my kids because I want to give them the best chance in life. It's a personal decision and I know not everyone can do this.

2. My son Christopher, who y'all have been praying for, was born with a very rare brain disorder called Sturge-Weber-Syndrome. Right now he is having problems associated with that syndrome. He is my life. We all adore him.

3. I was born and bred in the Keys. Key Largo to be exact.

4. I am a FANTASTIC water skier.

5. I love coffee. God made a wonderful thing when he created the coffee bean. :)

6. We have SIX boys and Ivy. Yes. She is a little spoiled.

7. I am a trained accountant. What on earth was I thinking? ECK! I really wanted to be an Oceanographer. Why didn't I? Dunno. But if I had, I may not have gotten into the writing thing.

8. I LOVE HORSES! They are so super fantastic. :-) My next favorite animals are sharks, alligators, and crocodiles. Remember, I grew up on Emerald Lagoon, Blackwater sound and next to the Everglades.

9. My family hails from Ireland. I have always thought I was really born there, instead of the Keys. :-) But it says Florida on my birth certificate. SHOOT!

10.My favorite books are, Black Beauty and The Black Stallion.

Now for the nominees:

Lee over at tossing it out

Emily over at Benedictions

Karen over at Write Now

Jill over at Jill Kemerer

Tamika over at The Write Worship

  1. I didn't know you homeschooled your kids! :)
I was homeschooled from the 9th grade up and very grateful for it. :)

Btw, Black Beauty is definitely one of the world best books. Hands down. ;)

  2. So nice to learn more about you, Robyn! Wow . . . I take my hat off to you, for being able to write as much as you do with SEVEN KIDS, and homeschool, too! I can barely manage with my two . . . my Lord, you must be super-organized! God bless you and your family . . . I'm keeping Christopher in my prayers.

Also, I've finally got that information on CONTESTS from various writing organizations (deadlines are February, March, April, May) up on my blog. So when you get a minute or two . . . stop on by, my friend. :)

  3. Wow! SIX boys and a girl! You are a tough woman. Congrats on the award!

  4. You are one busy blessed lady! Congratulations! I didn't know you waterski too. How on earth do you find time to write?

  5. Congratulations on the award! It was fun to learn more about you. Have a great weekend :)

  6. Thanks Robyn! I'm thrilled by your kindness.

You are a woman of many layers- Wow! I wish I were that fascinating. And hats off to you for investing such a large portion to your children's development, I am certainly not made from that mold. I just pray for loving, challenging teachers!

  7. Congratulations on your award. I loved reading your ten things!

  8. Congrats on the well deserved awards! I hope your son is doing better! Hospitals are scary places! :(

I always wanted a big family like that! We have such a hard time conceiving though... I'm so blessed to have the two I've got!

  9. Congratulations!

Loved hearing a "bit" about you. Florida girl, me too. Irish, me mum was Irish. O'Shields the "O" was dropped.

I think better of home schooling every day. Teach well, with love, and protect the children. Bravo.

Christopher remains in my thoughts and prayers.

  10. Congrats to a very honest and scrappy lady! ;)

  11. SIX boys!?! Holy camoly! I had no idea. That is insane! And amazing. And are my hero. My family hails from Ireland too!

  12. Another island girl! I'm reading the book The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly. Calpurnia is the middle child, the only girl, with six brothers. What a hoot! I'm sure at times it's a joy and trial for both you and Ivy.

    Blessings on your son, Christopher.

  13. Hi Robyn,

Thank you so much, what a nice surprise! You are a sweetheart:) Congratulations to you and the other winners, too.

It was fun to hear all the Robyn details:) I am a former homeschool mom (they've all graduated) and will be praying for you:)

    Thanks and Blessings,

  14. I can't believe you have seven kids! That's so amazing, and that you homeschool them. Very cool!
Did I tell you we have a family condo on Key Largo? We LOVE it down there.
Thanks for sharing and congrats on your award!

  15. Robyn,
LOVED getting to know you better, especially about the mutual coffee love and about Christopher's disorder. It'll be nice to pray for him a bit more specifically.

  16. Sharks, alligators, and crocodiles!? Yep, I'd say you're definitely from Florida!

Loved your honest scrap. It's so neat to learn little tidbits like these about my blogging buds.
