I know I've been mostly absent this week.

But I DO have an excuse. My PC has been very sick. Almost dead. As a matter of fact, they had to revive it. And by that I mean, make it new.

This virus was the absolute WORST virus that they have ever seen.  And I have virus protection. So don't don't let that fool ya. Your computer can still get one. Where did I get it from? FACEBOOK!

I opened a message from my son. Not realizing his facebook had been hacked. MY KID. Of course, I'll open something from him or any of my other children. (They all don't have facebook.)

Point? I will never open another message from anyone. I can't. This virus got into all the files, the family pictures, the writing. It wormed its way into my Microsoft Office.

This is a warning to you. All the writing folks that I love. Back up EVERYTHING. Put your pictures on a disc. Please!

This has weighed me down on a week when I should be happy for Beth. (And I am. Just not like it should be. Nothing is this week.) She is in New York with C. (her hubby). Having a big time. *waves to Beth*

I'm using my laptop right now, but am really only writing on this and I am DEATHLY afraid to use it on the internet too much.

CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. BACK UP EVERYTHING. :(

  2. Oh BUMMER! I back up everything on jumpdrives and discs. I have a laptop too, just for my writing. It NEVER goes on the internet.

    Good advice though, very true.

  4. I am sooo paranoid about stuff like this, so I do back up everything. After that, I get paranoid that my back ups will mysteriously get erased!!!

  7. Robyn, I hope you were able to retrieve your files. I had a bad virus attack last year. After that, I switched my Virus protection to Norton. As part of the package they have an online backup. Just something to consider.

  9. Ick, so sorry to hear this..but thanks for sharing and for the warning.

I signed up for MOZY it does automatic back ups of my computer files (all of them) three or four times a day without any prompting or work from me. Awesome stuff.

  10. How frustrating! I can sympathize, as my computer got something awful several years ago, and I lost about 35-40 links to obscure sites I was using to research a book. I backed up my book on a disc, but not my bookmarks. I don't even know how. Like you, I have always had a policy of never opening any attachments, but the virus came on something DH downloaded.

I'm glad you're back. I hope the damage didn't set you back too far.

  11. Oh, I am SOOOO sorry. I actually have a program that saves everything for me plus an extra hard drive. Have already had to call on it.

    It is soooo frustrating.

  14. Sorry for your computer troubles - and sorry for not stopping by much sooner - but you've hit it on the head. If there's one thing I've learned after more than 16 years as a network admin, it's this:

People only realize the necessity for backups AFTER they've lost something important.

I hope things go alot better for you from here out.

  15. Oh gosh, Robyn...I am so sorry! We went through this in the spring. We ended up having to buy a new desktop. We bought a virus program and scan it and my laptop daily. I hope you get everything straightened out soon....

  16. I backup.

I know about virus attacks. Not pretty.

And it feels so uncomfortable not to have my computer functioning. Might as well take away my food and water.

  17. So very sorry about the virus! What we do on our computers, writing, blogging and whatever else, is personal.

Sending much love & hugs, thewildmagnolia

  18. *waves back at you* NYC was fun, but I'm sorry that everything was lost on your computer!

  19. Oh, no! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'm so sorry. I had a virus but didn't lose everything. I had Norton, but the computer guys said stuff gets by that, too. So they added something called MalWareBytes that works with the other antivirus software. Like an extra layer of protection.
