The story of how I did

Last week several bloggers followed our very own Patti Nielson http://pattinielson.blogspot.com/ into the wonderful world of keeping track of our writing hours, minutes, and seconds. :)

So how'd I do? Here's my tally:

Monday: Well, it was my birthday and I met with Beth. So I wrote NOTHING. UGH (GUILT)

Tuesday: Hospital trip with Christopher. Hubby drove and I wrote in the car for two hours. (Sun was bugging me and hubby was chatting away or I would have written more. More GUILT.

Wednesday: YAY. After home-school I wrote for four hours. WOOT! Left laptop feeling, oh so wonderful about myself.

Thursday: Home-school and then writing. I logged another four hours. Feelin' fine. Yeah!

Friday: home-school co-op. After my journalism class (great kids, btw, I love 'em.) I wrote two hours and then when we returned home from co-op, I wrote for another hour. Said to self, "self, you are a writin' FOOL." Yeah!

Total: Thirteen hours

What I learned. I learned I write more than I thought I did on certain days. And that interruptions don't bother me. I flow along. But I have pangs of GUILT when I don't log at least three hours of writing time. This GUILT haunts me until I am able to have a long writing session. And the guilt makes me believe I won't be able to write the next day. So I have to step outta that guilt in order to write well the next time.

This experiment was totally worth it and I have decided to do it on my own for a month to track my progress on my novel. GET OUTTA HERE guilt. :)

  2. Good heavens! I don't know how you find the time to write at all!! But you logged a great total, so you had a very successful week!

And I hope Christopher's visit to the dr went well. Sending him an extra big hug! :):)

  3. Mothers feel guilt. Writers feel guilt. We have to do the best we can when things are thrown our way.

Today, I also wrote a post about writing commitment.

  5. You are a writing inspiration. I learned this week that I can get something accomplished in 15 minutes. I don't need an hour of uninterrupted time.

    Thanks for participating.

  8. It seems you did great job of writing last week! This is definitely a great way to increase your writing, and find the method that's most efficient for you. It reminds me of watching calories and what you eat.

You sound pretty dedicated. Writing in the car. And thirteen hours is great!! I hope you learn a bunch more this month as you continue to record your time.

  15. This is actually a great idea:) A writing professional (Randy I.) said that logging your writing time is good for future projects once you are published. It gives you an idea of how long writing a novel actually takes you when you have deadlines looming.

  16. Very inspiring! I tend to keep track of words rather than hours, but I haven't been actually keeping track for a while. I really should get back to that!

  17. You rocked! I keep a writing log, and like you, am surprised at how much I actually write. It makes me feel great, knowing I'm working hard toward my goals. Keep going!

  18. Hi Robyn..you wrote in the car, I am amazed because I cannot write when I am travelling, I either listen to music or read. You didn't do too badly. Keep going and you will write more. :)

  20. Robyn, you are AMAZING!! I'm always impressed by all that you get accomplished in your busy life. You're motivating me to carve out much more time for that creative me who is gathering cobwebs some days somewhere inside.
